Now SOLD to Andrew in South Carolina! Congratulations on Bugeye #376!
NEW this week! We cleaned up Fritz a little bit to eliminate some of the debris blocking our view of the floors and shot a BRAND NEW walkaround video chronicling what Fritz’s next owner can expect to get! Fritz can be yours for just $5,395! Give us a call and lets talk about this great project!
This is a Bugeye we call “Fritz” (AN5L 32663). Fritz is a rolling project that came to us from Iowa. A restoration was started long ago but didn’t really get off the ground and has sat for some time, waiting for a new lease on life. If you’re looking for a “blank slate” starting point for a Bugeye build, this is the car for you!
We’re offered lots of project cars and we refuse many… they are often too full of holes. We chose this one because it is in superior condition when you consider the fleet of project Bugeyes out there. There is work to do, but this one is quite manageable! In particular, take a look at the smooth curves in the grill area, and out to the park lights, as well as the fair curves around the tail lights and throughout the back deck… you can spend hundreds of hours smoothing these areas if they are not right. This nose is also excellent, and looks as though it has not seen the abuse we usually see on Bugeyes needing complete restoration. This one will be much easier to prep for paint than most!
There are some areas on Fritz’s body that require some attention. There are a few spots along the foot-well cross rails where holes are present, and the foot well floor pans have a couple of pin holes in them that will necessitate some patching. There are other various small areas on the shell that will require some attention, and the bottom rear corners of the nose show some rust-through, but in totality this is a solid starting point!
Included with the rolling tub and nose are a cavalcade of parts removed from the car during the restoration process. In the photo slideshow at the end of the listing you will see in detail the parts that are present with the car. A functioning top bar is included with the car; it will still need painting, but the spring-loaded tubes are not seized, which is a big plus! There are two chrome U-shaped trim pieces shown… those are non-Bugeye and can be discarded. The car is 90% complete and we should have replacements for any missing or worn-out parts available in our catalog.
A stock 948 engine core and smoothcase transmission core are included with this car for the new owner to rebuild. This provides Fritz’s next caretaker with a good foundation to start the project. We also offer tech support to assist in the restoration process with any questions this car’s new owner may have.
If you’re looking for a fun winter project, check out the video, give Fritz a long look and give us a call if you’re interested! And if you’d like to see what parts we have to offer, check out our catalog here!
