We sold this car four years ago to a great home in California and we now have it back again!
Here is a rare opportunity to purchase a vehicle out of my own personal collection! This is a 1962 MGA 1622 Mark II. This car was prepared for concours judging when it was restored in Canada about 20 years ago, and it has been a dry weather driver ever since. It’s been used very little in that period and it remains in excellent shape. The underside is impressive; the interior is beautiful, with leather seats and the proper Mark II deluxe dashboard.
If you’re unfamiliar, the Mark II was the last of the MGAs; they are able to be distinguished from their Mark I brethren by their horizontal tail lights and more sculptural rear fenders, as well as a recessed grill that’s a little different from the earlier cars. In late 1961, the Mark II came along and was the shortest production run for the breed, producing just over 8,000 cars in its 2 year pruduction run before the MGB came out in 1963 and replaced it.
This is one of those rare opportunities to buy a very special car that’s in the right color and the right year and the right configuration/condition. That’s one of the reasons I made this car my own approximately ten years ago.
The most recent owner took great care of the car, and drove about 6000 miles. He did any required maintenenace and added new lever shocks at all four corners, new rear leaf springs, and a new engine head with hardened valve seats. He also added an aluminum radiator… all nice upgrades!

She drives beautifully. I’ve taken it on numerous highway drives; it tracks flawlessly and it’s just a true delight to pilot. Everything on this car works as it should, and does it with style!
A great top is included, as well as deluxe side curtains with the fabric perimeter instead of metal and rubber, to better protect the paint and to provide a better seal. A matching red side curtain bag is installed behind the seats; however, the side curtains are currently stowed in the trunk. The top is in fine shape. There is one small hole on the right side but I doubt anyone’s going to use any of the weather equipment on this car; it’s too nice to drive on rainy days.
The tonneau is excellent. I’ve also adapted removable three-point seatbelts to fit the car; these allow you to use the three point belts with the top up or down. The tires are nearly new Michelin XAS added by the prior owner. Pertronix ignition is also installed, and the tach was rebuilt to handle it, and works well.
A recent single 12 volt battery is installed in one of the battery trays and cranks strongly. If you are unfamiliar, all MGA’s came with two six volt volt batteries wired in series but it’s quite common for people to replace them with one 12 volt battery because they are maintenance-free, last longer, have fewer connections to corrode and crank with more authority.
I am not in any rush to sell this car, and I’m asking a premium price because I know how hard it is to find a car like this one that ticks all the boxes. There are plenty of nice MGAs out there for less money, so please only call about this one if you are someone who understands that special cars often sell for more than market value.
