We love convertibles, but not too much sun. So we developed a practical way to drive a Bugeye Sprite on the hottest of days without melting in the cockpit. Our Bugeye String Bikini is the answer. It covers just enough to shield you and your passenger from the sun and still give you that convertible feel, with abundant air flow. If you have been out on a boat with a bimini top, this is a similar product that shields you from the sun but also works when you are moving along at a good clip. This new product fastens to the front of your windshield like a Bugeye bar-type top (call if you have an early 9 stud windshield and we’ll make one for you). Use your own front bar from your convertible top or we can sell you one if you need it. We’ve also installed the two front lift dot fasteners so you can simply whip out your bikini and fit it to your car. Web straps allow you to tension the back section. It fits neatly over any Bugeye top bows as shown. You’ll need the original rear top bar hooks to fasten the “D” rings to the back deck of your car. (We have those in stock too if you need them.)
Black pebble grain vinyl top material is standard. Other colors are available. Call or email with your color choices!

We’ve been coming up with great new innovations for Bugeyes, and now you can be the first on your block to own our biggest product yet!
Just in time for the tail-end of winter–we now have a plow kit available for your Bugeye Sprite. Take on winter like never before! This big blade interfaces seamlessly with your Lockheed hydraulics with easy quick disconnect couplers. Adjust the blade easily by pumping your clutch pedal. Now you can be the envy of you friends and fit into tight spaces where no F350 dare go. And the powerful plow lights seamlessly plug into your wiring harness at the fuse box, so that your new elevated bug eyes can light-up the night, no matter how big a storm you venture into (top and side curtains recommended, but not required).
A 1275 engine and tire chains are recommended… the 948 engine works fine but viable snow depth is limited to just one inch of fresh powder. With a 1275, you’ll be plowing first tracks throughout your neighborhood!
We are delighted to introduce a new solution that makes Bugeye Sprite ownership possible for a whole new population of enthusiasts. If you have been longing for a Bugeye but have been concerned that you might not fit, or are worried that loss of dexterity limits your ability to get in and out of a Bugeye, this removable steering wheel is a great innovation. With the wheel out of the way, large drivers can now get in with ease.
Many of our clients big and small have found memories of jumping into a Bugeye in their teenage years. But with joint replacements much more common these days, we can all use a bit easier way in and out of our little British cars. This is an elegant solution. We’ve custom made two Bugeyes five inches longer for clients with joint issues. This is a much simpler and less expensive solution for most people, because with the wheel out of the way, it is quite easy to climb in. The kit includes the hubs needed to fit the interlocking pieces to your Sprite, along with a stunning MOMO leather wheel. The kit comes standard with a 13 inch wheel for the roomiest cockpit. Other sizes and wood wheels are also available. Call to make steering wheel substitutions. But the MOMO wheel as shown works great.
We also adapt a new Sprite Mark 1 horn push so the wheel looks correct, as shown in the photos. The hubs work perfectly with two wire horns. Let us know if you have a one wire horn, and we can modify the pieces for you.
Now, most large drivers can enjoy Sprite ownership. We anticipate fitting many of these kits for cars that move through our workshop as part of the preparation of the cars we sell. And now you can order the pieces below if you want to fit the kit yourself.
BTW, this kit doubles as a brilliant anti-theft kit… If my dad had this steering wheel set up in his cars, I never would have been able to “borrow” his cars when he was out of town!
Our Quick Release hub adapter is $189.95. In order to use our adapters, you will need a 6 bolt steering wheel and the correct horn push. You can affix a wheel of your own or we can build the hub adapter with a Momo 14 inch wheel and a Momo horn push for $449.95. Or if you prefer, we can build the whole assembly you see in the photos and install a new Sprite horn push, for $549.95.
There are multiple steering wheel choices available-call or email if you want something wood or custom. Otherwise, you can pick your options from the drop down to buy below.
Too often, Bugeye license plates are screwed directly to the rear bodywork, often damaging the paint in the process. And when the cars change ownership someone has to go into the trunk to manage any nuts and/or through bolts that fall into the cracks and recesses of your dark boot. So we designed permanent stud system to be affixed to the back of each car to make license plate mounting a snap.
You will still have to send someone in the trunk one last time, but once the studs are tight, you can use the nylock nuts to secure the plate from outside the car. Spacers keep the plate from hitting your beautiful paintwork!
This is the best way we have seen to mount a rear plate on a Bugeye. Mount kit including all washers, bolts and nuts, $9.95 + shipping.
Ever smelled fuel when you filled up your Bugeye? Senders are notorious for leaking, it’s not easy to get a good seal, and the leak only manifests when you fill the tank. Then, fuel fills the depression around the sender on top of the tank, and sits there stinking-up the back of your car.
We have a solution— now you can buy a complete tank, pre-loaded with a new sender, Viton gaskets and metal float, pressure tested and ready to install. This is the set-up we have used with great results, on the hundreds of Austin Healey Sprites that have passed through our shop. Check out the video below to see how we address this problem area:
Twas a cold week at Bugeye headquarters, and yet we are quite busy building and restoring everything in sight. Our new roof saw it’s first snow, I test drove another five speed Bugeye conversion and Martin soldiered-on building our super Bugeye, Morgan. We built a template for a custom tonneau to accommodate the roll bar on Thomas the racer (which has now left for Louisiana). Here are some photos from this week at the Bugeye hut…
