This 1960 Bugeye Sprite (AN5L 20328) is called “Iris.” She has been living for the past 13 years in the Monterey and Palm Desert California, which is where we sent it with 26,489 miles in 2013. This is a 948 powered car with the correct 948 engine and an upgraded rib case transmission (in excellent shape).
The odometer now reads 28,037 so the car traveled only about 1500 miles in those 13 years. When it was here in 2013, we added electronic ignition, front disk brakes with a power booster, three point seat belts, new white wall radials (now outdated but with only 1500 miles) LED lights, new steering column bushings and a top and side curtain storage pouch. More importantly, we went through every inch of the car to prepare it for that owner. So we have a great car that now needs only a little maintenance before we send it to a new home.
In my drive video below, I call out the front shocks need to be replaced. New rebuilt units will come installed as part of the sale of this car. The carb float bowls also need some service, which we will also do for the new owner as part of this sale.
For the new owner, tires would be nice, to start with fresh rubber and the improved ride quality one gets with new supple rubber. And you might want a fresh new battery. Other than those items, this car is pretty much ready to go. This is a very sharp and solid car.
